Pete Seeger for the Nobel Prize

Saturday Night – Pete Seeger

by John Montgomery

Welcome to the New 12 Gate coffee house!

I’m out of town tonight, so I am posting this somewhat early. Thanks for your patience with me. Tonight I want to focus on Pete Seeger, the man who almost single-handedly catalyzed the American Folk Revival of the last half of the 20th Century. I’m sharing some singing, but also some documentary clips as well. See Bio Please enjoy.

So let’s start with some music! My parents used to ask me the same question that Pete asked in this song – What did you learn in school today?

This is the first part of a PBS documentary and is fascinating. The Power of Song #1 PBS

Here is another documentary clip. The Birth of a Peace Anthem – The Story…

The Song by the Byrds….

How about a banjo lesson? Skip to My Lou.

There is a movement at foot to nominate Pete Seeger for the Nobel Prize. Check out the site and consider signing the petition.

Thought I would close with a sing-a-long. Guantanamera

Have a great weekend
