The Art of Percussion

Welcome to the New 12th Gate Coffee House.

drums

I thought I would try something a little different. That’s not different – I do that every week! Even so, I thought I would focus on the art of percussion. Besides the voice, seems to me that drumming must have been the second musical instrument invented. Everybody drums even if it is just nodding our heads and hearing our brains bounce around. So tonight, I want to share four perspectives into the vast world of percussion and rhythms,

So let’s start by with a percussion solo featuring Assaf Seewi playing pandeiro, Congas and Timbales…

Now for a completely different take – enjoy this performance of the Blue Men Group doing their famous Drum Bone routine.

Unfortunately, this video ends early, but you get the idea of the creativity of this amazing New York street performer.

Finally let’s look at the crew from Stomp – look what they can do with basketballs! You may have to turn your volume up a bit.

We need to come back to this theme and look at drums in various cultures. Maybe in a couple of months.- don’t let me forget.

Have a great weekend – the Beat Goes On…..
