Welcome to the New 12th Gate Coffee House

Right…I’m feeling a little silly tonight. I thought we could take a break and have some fun. Tonight we bring to our stage music from the Muppets – not Ms. Piggie, nor Kermit. These clips feature some of the characters whose names we never knew. But the music is great.
I found two songs from the Muppet Folk Trio. Let me start with one of my favorites, although I first heard it from the Kingston Trio.- To Morrow
Bring these guys back for an encore – You don’t Want My Love
The Dueling Banjos have been played by almost every wannabe around. This version features comic Steve Martin who is pretty good…and of course the Muppets
Finally, let’s continue with a Muppet version of The Devil Went Down to Georgia
Finally, we close with this wonderful version of the theme Manha Manha
Hope you enjoyed this evening. Next week, we will get back to serious music….maybe!

This hit the spot!. I haven’t seen the Muppets for years, so I forget about how enjoyable and fun their various ‘bands’ are to watch and listen to. It’s hard to pick a favorite from the above – they were all great. I also forget how good Steve Martin is on the banjo.
I’m torn! I don’t know which of these I like the most. I think, maybe, “You Don’t Want My Love.” Or “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” They’re all marvelous!
I have read so many wonderful variations on that story. My most favorite is one by William Sanders, a short story in Are We Having Fun Yet?: American Indian Fantasy Stories, a steel guitar standing in for the fiddle.
Here’s a favorite of mine–”Foggy Mountain Breakdown” with Steve Martin, Earl Scruggs, and more (a performance on the Dave Letterman Show):
Breathtaking!
