Welcome to the New 12th Gate!

Tonight, I want to share several video performances by Eva Cassidy. Eva Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was an American vocalist, known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country and pop classics.

Born and raised in the Washington DC area, Eva Cassidy was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, DC when she died of melanoma in 1996, but has since been found by an appreciative audience. The clips I share to night were all recorded at a January 1996 live performance at Blues Alley in DC. The performances were later released as a live recording.
Eva Cassidy had a special touch with all kinds of music. I hope you enjoy these selections tonight and if you are intrigued, there are more clips on You-Tube.
We can start with gospel – People Get Ready
Although Eva Cassidy is famous for her superb, touching ballads, she was equally skilled in other genres of music. In this example of Stormy Monday, she shows off her great talent in soul music.
Still Cassidy was best known for her amazing ballads. Somewhere Over the Rainbow serves as just one example of many.
One more. This is one of my favorites – wonder why? Tall Trees in Georgia
One encore – This was her final song of the evening – You’ve Changed
Have a great weekend!
John
