Headlines?

Posted by John Montgomery on December 23, 2008

It’s been years decades since I was on the college newspaper staff. My first assignment, for several weeks, was to write headlines. I don’t remember the actual rules other than make it fit, but I do think we were to do more than stoke prejudices.

This morning’s top AP headline on Comcast….

Five Muslims Convicted of Conspiracy to Kill US Soldiers

I thought I would try some alternatives, grounded in the facts of the story.

Five Philadelphians Convicted of Conspiracy to Kill US Soldiers

Five Men Found Guilty in Conspiracy Trail

Philadelphia Area Immigrants Face Life in Prison

Jury Finds Terror Suspects Guilty

But then again, maybe we ought to take a clue from the AP Headline writer…..
